The 10 Worst Anime Of 2014 Reached For Some Seriously High Levels of Terribad

It's time to tackle the first of the two big lists recapping the last year, and the worst anime of 2014 are now on deck!
All of these shows are reallyvery not good. That said, the list is presented in no particular order of badness, except for the number one show. The anime in that slot stands apart in its own new atmospheric level of suck.

10. Mahou Sensou

This was a disaster of an adaptation, made all the worse because it was done by studio Madhouse. We like to think that they have some slightly elevated standards of quality.
The plot line was rushed and the characters were underdeveloped, and more annoying than anything. It was a complete bore until the last episode, and then once it finally had something good going for it, it ended. It was a shame that Momoka Shijou, the awesome ink-wielding head mistress, was trapped in such a mediocre show.

9. Z/X Ignition

Ever wonder what it'd be like if Pokemon sucked a lot? Well, wonder no longer!
There was a slew of shows that came out this year that were based on card games, and this was easily the worst of the lot. Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis showed us that a series made to promote a product can be amazing, while Z/X Ignition reminded us that they are almost always a waste of time.

8. Blade and Soul

While this show isn't technically ecchi, it sure likes to remind the viewer of the characters' breasts, constantly. That's pretty much all that needs to be said about the show.
The main character Alka is devoid of any personality, and that really brings the anime down. It's like the creators couldn't decide on a personality to give her so they didn't bother to give her one at all!

7. Mekakucity Actors

They apparently fixed this for the Blu-rays

Studio Shaft is known for their interesting art styles and direction, but when that goes wrong, it makes for one heck of a train wreck.
I'll let GoBoiano social user GigaB explain where it all went wrong.

6. Rail Wars

This has something to do with trains

Do you have an encyclopedic knowledge of the iner-workings of the Japanese train system? Do you like your shows to completely inexplicable, and impressively out of place ecchi scenes? If you do, then you might actually enjoy Rail Wars. If, however, you are like most people, this show offered you nothing to enjoy.
The story featured your typical dense main character not realizing he has a harem forming around him, and the plot was an absurd episodic setup of crazy things happening on trains and in stations. Lets just say that if this many things actually go wrong on Japanese trains, I will never ride one.

5. Fuun Ishin Dai Shogun

GoBoiano writer Aaron Magulick took the reins on explaining why this one made the list:
“Dai Shogun [is a] mecha series that takes place in historical Japan. Main hero gets hives when he touches women, and his virginity gives him powers. Filled with unnecessary fan service and terrible fights. Produced by J.C. Staff and written by the dude that wrote Cowboy Bebop, so it should have been a lot better. It's the worst kind of stupid.”

4. Soul Eater NOT!

This show also made the list for most disappointing of the year, but it went above and beyond the call of duty and managed to suck enough to make the worst of the year list too!
There isn't too much to add to this that wasn't already covered the last time it was mentioned. Annoying characters, bad animation and over-done story make this a mar on the Soul Eater franchise.

3. Zankyou no Terror

Ok, this making the list is sure to upset some people, so the explanation will be a little more in-depth than the others, and will definitely contain spoilers!
First, some pros. The soundtrack was stellar, and both the opening and ending were up there with the best of last year. It was gorgeous. The animation was top-notch and the art direction was also incredible.
So, you ask, how did this show end up on the Worst of the Year list? It was the story.
The story started off with a lot of promise, with two hyper-intelligent terrorists who committed intricate terrorist attacks that were on a large scale, but managed to never hurt anyone. For the first half of the anime, a great cat and mouse story took place between the main characters and the one competent cop in the Japanese police.
It all falls apart when the character Five enters the show. Several bad “Engrish” filled episodes later, the show comes to the most confusing and awful conclusion. It's revealed that the main characters were trying to get revenge on the people who experimented on them and that they want to do it in a way that ensures the other kids who were experimented on will be remembered. So their master plan to do this was to set off a nuke in the atmosphere, disabling every modern way to record what happened!
They then died anonymously, and the story ended in a dumb recollection scene in which only two people remember who they were, while they made the world a much worse place to live.

2. Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete

GoBoiano writer Dylan Rimmer tackled the reason this show made the list:
“It actually had a good story overall, but that was literally the only saving grace. The quality was incredibly lackluster and it had some of the most bland characters out there who were not written to be engaging at all. Overall, it had poor execution on everything. You had to ignore all of the flaws to get any enjoyment, and it turns into a hassle to even try to enjoy.”

1. Glasslip

The only other carry-over from the most disappointing list comes the king of this list. There is an endless bill of problems to go on about with Glasslip, but let's just touch on the main complaints.
The characters were never really developed well throughout the story, and a good amount of the actions they took didn't make any sense. To go with that, the story never actually went anywhere — it was truly bizarre how they managed to string together an entire series worth of episodes with nothing significant ever happening.

So that's this year's bottom of the pile! Do you think the list was pretty accurate? Do you think this list couldn't possibly be more wrong and that the writer must be some kind of idiot? Let us know in the comments!
